10 reasons why the 2023 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro is the perfect land vehicle

2023 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro

2023 is an exciting year for Toyota. Upgrades to the GR Supra, a redesigned 4Runner and an overhauled Sequoia with TRD Pro trim level will impress when owners can finally get behind the wheel. One of the upgrades is the Sequoia, which offers a range of improvements to make it the perfect overland vehicle.

While the standard Sequoia is a comfortable full-sized SUV, the TRD Pro version offers trim-specific wheels, fenders and badging. The upgrades aren’t just for show as the TRD Pro also has plenty of off-road and performance upgrades making it the most perfect land vehicle for your 2023 adventures!

10 Spacious passenger and cargo area

Overlanding requires a lot of cargo space and passenger space, depending on the number of crew members. The Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro is a full-size three-row SUV that can carry up to seven passengers. The third row seats aren’t too comfortable, but the seats slide, giving more foot room for taller passengers, at the expense of boot space.

Expect only 11 cubic feet of cargo behind the third row, but dropping a few seats offers more room. Cargo behind the second row of tops at 49 cubic feet; with everything down, you end up with nearly 87 cubic feet. Plenty of room for all necessities.

9 Body-on-frame chassis

Several full-sized SUVs have ditched the body-on-frame chassis in favor of the unibody design. The unibody design is fine for city riding, but the body-on-frame platform is superior for more aggressive terrain.

These body-on-frame chassis are perfect for Overlanding as they are less sensitive to torsional forces. That means your extra load, travel trailer or off-road riding won’t cause irreparable damage to the frame, allowing you to stay on your adventures for longer.

8 TRD Pro Tuning Suspension System Upgrades

Your land vehicle’s suspension offers comfort and capability, and the Sequoia TRD Pro has some excellent tuning upgrades. These upgrades include a front stabilizer bar, a 2.5-inch Fox internal bypass coilover and rear shocks with an external reservoir.

The upgraded TRD Pro shocks join an independent double wishbone front suspension and multi-link coil spring rear suspension. With these upgrades, off-road feels just as comfortable as driving on the highway, only much more fun!

7 Toyota’s powerful powertrain and performance

New for 2023 is the Toyota iFORCE MAX 3.5L twin-turbo V6 hybrid engine. When installed in the Sequoia TRD Pro, this engine produces 437 horsepower and 583 lb-ft of torque. The V6 engine can launch the massive Sequoia to 60 MPH in just about six seconds.

The engine is only part of the performance equation, as Toyota supplies the Sequoia TRD Pro with an electronically controlled 10-speed automatic transmission. This pair helps power the 4WD system with a two-speed transfer case and an automatic differential lock.

6 Ideal external dimensions

Despite being a full-size SUV, the Sequoia TRD Pro has ideal exterior dimensions for maximum accessibility. It is 208 inches long by 68.6 inches wide and 77.7 inches high, making it perfect for city riding with minimal restrictions.

In addition to manageable exterior dimensions, the Sequoia TRD Pro has a curb weight of 6150 pounds, allowing it to traverse public and private roads. The 23-degree approach angle and 20-degree departure angle give the TRD Pro equal off-road capability.

5 Solid MPG numbers and generous tank size

A large, heavy SUV with a twin-turbo engine should be a nightmare at the pump. Fortunately, Toyota is equipping the Sequoia TRD Pro with a hybrid engine that gives it a fuel economy of 19 MPG in the city and 22 MPG on the highway, for a mixed total of 22 MPG.

Toyota’s Sequoia TRD Pro has a 22.5 gallon tank, which gives it an estimated range of 675 miles. Sure, if you’re fully loaded with Overlanding gear, you’ll get worse ratings, but it’s nice to know you’re starting from a pretty decent spot.

4 The Sequoia TRD Pro has a towing capacity at pick-up level

The perfect land vehicle doesn’t necessarily mean sleeping in your car. Instead, it may mean towing a trailer or RV to provide a home base. While other SUVs struggle when it comes to towing, the Sequoia TRD Pro offers pickup-level towing with capacities up to 9,020 pounds.

Of course, £9,000 isn’t as good as a fully loaded pickup. Still, it offers more than enough capacity for most travel trailers without sacrificing full-size SUV capabilities. And boost your pulling game with an integrated trailer brake controller!

The technology in the Sequoia TRD Pro is also getting an upgrade. New for 2023 are the 14-inch touchscreen infotainment systems, wireless charging and 120V A/C sockets. Combine all that with the excellent safety systems, and you’ll never want to leave the interior of your Sequoia TRD Pro.

2 Loaded with off-road features

Toyota prides itself on the TRD division, with several TRD Pro models topping the rankings in their respective categories. The Sequoia TRD Pro is no different. Pretty much every surface possible shows off the TRD logo, including the wheels, skid plates and suspension system.

To really maximize your Sequoia, drivers can select one of the driving modes that help tailor the driving experience to the situation. Plus, plenty of options packages offer things like power mirrors and power-tilting panoramic moonroofs, giving owners added luxury to their land vehicle.

1 Toyota’s Award-Winning Legacy

Toyota is continually judged as producing some of the most capable Overland vehicles. The awards continued into 2022 and continued into 2023. JD Power awarded Toyota the 2023 Quality, 2022 Reliability and 2022 Performance awards.

The Sequoia TRD Pro takes advantage of this award-winning legacy. In addition, the TRD department of Toyota has a lot of experience with the 4Runner, Tundra and Tacoma TRD Pro models; each can make an argument for being an excellent land vehicle!
