Best friends killed in car accident just months before starting together in Sheffield Hallam

They came back from a day at the sea as part of their ‘summer of fun’

Two best teenage friends have been killed in a car accident just months before they started their studies at Sheffield Hallam University together.

Jennifer Woodhouse (18) and Lara Meldrum (19) were due to study together at Sheffield Hallam University later this year, before the collision just before 7 p.m. last Friday.

The crash happened on the A158 in Hagworthinghm, Lincolnshire, as the couple were returning home from a day at the beach.

Relatives of both girls paid tribute by describing Jennifer as a “kind-hearted, hardworking, caring and empathetic young woman” and highlighting Lara’s “great sense of adventure”.

In a pronunciationLincolnshire Police said they would still like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision between a black Peugeot and a black Volvo, or from anyone with possible dashcam footage of the incident.

Police said the friends were being treated for their injuries, but both later died.

An avid hockey player, Lara had played in the National League for Nottingham ice hockey club.

Jennifer volunteered at Barnardo’s every week before starting out as a chef, most recently at Pizza Express.

Having just completed their A-Levels, the two had “the most beautiful bond,” Jennifer’s family says, adding that “if anything happened, they would be against the world.”

Speaking with the MirrorJennifer’s family said: “She just loved people and most of all she believed in and defended her whole family, she stuck through everything, helped us all when we were hurt, caring when we were sick, advised us through our turmoil and always makes make us laugh and smile.”

Lara’s family said, “We’ve never known anyone with so many ‘best friends’, something so many called her pride. Lara is said to be the leader of karaoke, dancing and all sorts of hilarious antics. She loved those bus trips with the girls.”
