A BEST man has died after a truck crashed into the car taking him and the newlyweds to their wedding reception.
Chance Karnes, 20, was killed Saturday in the horror disaster in Monroe County, Illinois, which also injured four others.
He had been driving the Ford Bronco with other members of the wedding party when a Chevy truck hit them.
Former school quarterback Karnes died on the spot after being thrown from the car when it overturned. KSDK reports.
He had turned 20 the day before the fatal accident.
The other people involved in the crash are expected to survive.
Among them were Ryan and Ally Fithian, who had married a few hours earlier, and Chance’s girlfriend.
The driver of the Chevy truck Rhonda Schaefer, 57, also suffered minor injuries and was taken to an area hospital.
His father Jason told WSIL: “[He was] a handsome young man with beautiful blue eyes. He was an old soul.”
Chance’s mother Brandi said her son’s passion was horses.
Jason added: “[He] went to shows all over the Midwest and Oklahoma, Texas. [He] loved that closed cowboy family he was in.”
In tribute, his former teacher Kevin Dunaway said: “He will be greatly missed.
“This is just one of those horrible, horrible accidents that makes you question.
“But you just can’t replace those individuals. He had leadership, took those responsibilities.
“The way he behaved. On the sports field, in the classroom, in the store.
“He’s just one of those people you can’t help but like.”
The Ranch Sorting National Championships posted on Facebook, “A tragic loss of a great cowboy.
“The Ranch Sorting community is blessed to have come to know Chance. He and his infectious smile will be greatly missed.
“Calm down cowboy.”
The accident is still under investigation.
