Chris Harris says the Huracan STO is the best Lamborghini he's ever driven

If you’re a fan of Chris Harris, you’ll know that he never thought much of the Lamborghini Huracan and criticized it repeatedly for its understeer. However, as the veteran journalist recently discovered when testing the Huracan STO, it differs from the rest of the range.

You might be fooled into thinking that the Huracan STO is just an upgraded version of the Performante with some updated styling, but it’s much more than that.

Most notably, the STO drops the supercar’s standard four-wheel drive system and instead is sold exclusively in a rear-wheel drive configuration. Harris mentions that while there are other rear-wheel-drive Huracans available, they feel slightly disconnected and aren’t that much sharper than the regular model.

The STO is an entirely different beast. Harris says that when you ride the track, everything about the STO feels absolutely wonderful. He adds that it feels instinctive and intuitive. When you speed through some of the high-speed corners of the Silverstone circuit, you also feel the aerodynamics do their job and stick the car to the pavement.

Then there’s the engine. The Huracan STO is powered by a 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 that produces 631 horsepower and 417 lb-ft (565 Nm) of torque. Widely regarded as one of the best in any production car, this engine is made all the more special by the fact that most of its rivals, save for the much cheaper Porsche 911 GT3, have taken the forced introduction route.

Harris concludes that the STO is being blown away by some of its rivals when it comes to performance, most notably the McLaren 765LT. However, this is a car that is about much more than numbers and when it comes to driving pleasure it offers something that none of its rivals can match. The Top Gear presenter loves it so much that he says it’s probably the best Lamborghini he’s ever driven.
