CLAYTON, La. – A man was killed when he was hit by a vehicle near his home in Clayton, Louisiana in the early hours of Monday morning.

Brandy Spears, the public affairs director at the Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office, confirmed that an emergency call had been received at approximately 6:35 a.m. on Monday, May 9, regarding a pedestrian who was hit by a vehicle.

Bryan Fletcher Jr., 30, was reportedly walking along Marlette Road in Clayton, La., when the driver, Myron Jefferson Jr., hit Fletcher with his vehicle on a curve.

Concordia Parish Sheriff’s Office and Louisiana State Police both responded to the incident, and Fletcher was pronounced dead at the scene.

Spears said it is still under investigation by Louisiana state police.

Fletcher is survived by his parents, Tammy Fletcher and Bryan Fletcher Sr., and three children, 7-year-old Benjamin, 5-year-old Zoe, and 4-year-old Natalie.

His sister, April Nugent, said Fletcher was a good father and a good person who was loved by those who knew him.

“He was doing carpentry work and was starting a new job on Monday when he was hit,” she said.

Fletcher woke up Monday to find he had a flat tire on a vehicle he needed to get to work.

He walked to his sister’s house about a mile from where he lived for help, Nugent said.

“We’re just devastated,” she said. “My grandfather called me at about 7:15 that morning. He lives away from them. I just got up and got my kids ready for school. I started screaming, crying and I couldn’t even speak. I was devastated.”

She said she will remember her brother as the funny, playful person he always was, who also did everything with his children and played with them, “as if he were a kid”.

She started a GoFundMe to help the family with funeral expenses.

“Several people kept messaging me on Facebook about what happened and how they can help,” she said. “I didn’t even think about it at first, but people asked me if I wanted to start a GoFundMe. It would help my mother. To be fair, she has cancer and saved money for her own funeral but ended up spending it on his. He had no insurance. He just turned 30 and was as healthy as a horse.”
