Good Samaritan's car stolen, crashed with children still inside

MURFREESBORO, Tennessee (WTVF) — A woman has been taken into custody after attempting to steal the SUV from a person who had stopped to help her on the side of the road. An 18-year-old and a minor were in the vehicle at the time. The woman perished and crashed into a tree after the children confronted her during her escape attempt, around 2:35 p.m. Neither child was injured.

The woman was originally stranded on the side of the road after driving on I-24 and alighting at the Medical Center Parkway exit in Murfreesboro. She hit a curb, which knocked out her Ford Focus.

Two Good Samaritans stopped to help her, and when the woman saw an opportunity, she jumped into the driver’s seat of one of the assist vehicles, a gray Acura MDX SUV.

The woman drove the Acura on Medical Center Parkway, but ended up colliding with two vehicles. She was confronted by the 18-year-old and underage child, causing her to cross the oncoming lane near Joe Knight Drive and stop after hitting a tree.

She ran, but a Murfreesboro police officer chased her on foot.

The woman was taken into custody with the help of an off-duty officer from the Metro Nashville Police Department.

The Good Samaritan whose car had been stolen was reunited with her unharmed children.

Further investigation into the incident is underway.
