Honda celebrates 50 years of fun, efficient, iconic and best-selling Civic

Since its introduction to America in early 1973, the 11 generations of Civic have consistently set the benchmark for the American auto industry by delivering class-leading quality and reliability, excellent fuel efficiency and low emissions, refined and responsive driving dynamics, and first-class safety performance. This has earned the trust of US car buyers and a reputation as a segment-defining product. With US sales of more than 12.3 million, the vast majority of which are produced at Honda’s North American auto plants*, the Civic has been one of the top three best-selling cars in America for the past five decades.

“Civic embodies Honda’s commitment to providing the highest quality, clean, safe and fun products for every generation of car buyers. That is Civic’s magic and key to its success for 50 years,” said Mamadou Diallo, vice president of auto sales at American Honda. “Civic is deeply woven into American automotive culture and we are grateful for the loyalty and trust our customers have placed in Honda and Civic over the past five decades.”

The Civic is also one of the world’s most award-winning cars of its generation, consistently taking home the industry’s highest accolades, including three times North American Car of the Year, eight times Car’s “10Best” honors and Driver magazine and Motor Trend Car of the Year. And while Civic built its success through the loyalty of the baby boomer generation, its popularity with younger buyers continues. Since 2011, Civic has been the #1 vehicle among millennial buyers and has captured the industry’s most Gen Z, new and multicultural buyers over the past six years.
