John Hennessey reveals plans for Venom F5 to be top speed king

Rear View Driving

The Hennessey Venom F5 is one of the world’s most powerful road cars with 1,817 horsepower and 1,193 lb-ft of torque thanks to a 6.6-liter twin-turbocharged V8 developed entirely in-house by the company. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a seven-speed semi-automatic gearbox, and with a dry weight of just 2,998 pounds, the Venom F5 offers a power-to-weight ratio of 1,298 hp/ton. Hennessey claims the Venom F5 will hit 60 mph in under three seconds and reach a top speed of 311 mph, with 15.35-inch carbon-ceramic brakes that bring things back to more reasonable speeds.

Increasing pressure from regulators, the state and the general public has seen many manufacturers commit to going all-electric in the near future, and Hennessey agrees that electricity has a future, but not for the usual reasons. “Electrification opens so many doors in design and packaging that it’s impossible otherwise. We couldn’t do Deep Space with an internal combustion engine. The skateboard chassis and engines offer exciting innovation potential,” he says. The Deep Space hyper GT will be the most expensive car in the world at $3,000,000. It will have a diamond-shaped seating pattern and a 6×6 drivetrain configuration.
