A Katy mother of an autistic child was stolen from her driveway earlier this week. This remains an ongoing investigation, but the mother appreciates seeing the good in people as many reach out to replace her son’s sensory toys.

Saturday night, Katy mom Bonnie Banditt left her keys in her gray Dodge Charger in her driveway. She admits it was a mistake, but struggled to get her three-year-old autistic son in when we had a meltdown. The next morning her vehicle was stolen.

“These guys were featured on multiple videos going from car to car checking car doors,” says Bonnie Banditt. “They found my keys that I left in my vehicle the night before.”

Banditt caught the two suspects on video scouting her vehicle at 5:57 am. They left and returned at 6:41 AM and got out of a black SUV. That’s when they came in and drove off in her car, just 15 minutes before her mother walked out to leave for work.

Wallet searched before being dumped
Banditt had left everything in her car, including her purse, the night before, while she worked to calm her son.

They stole her driver’s license, money and credit cards from her wallet before tossing it from the vehicle a few houses away where it was recovered.

A report has been made to the police and this is an active investigation. Banditt says she’s been told all she can do now is wait to see if they get caught. There is no way to trace her stolen vehicle.

Katy Families Donate Sensory Toys

Banditt’s son had many sensory toys in the car that are now lost. Many Katy residents have approached Banditt to help replace her son’s toys.

“I’m very grateful for the help people are providing,” Banditt says. “I am actually overwhelmed by all the people who care about me, even during this painful time. They are the ones that keep me going, because it shows that there is still a lot of good in people.”

Banditt’s vehicle is a dark gray Dodge Charger with a metal skull plate on the side and paper labels. It was stolen from her driveway on Greenhouse and Tabacco Road in Katy.
