The weekend crowds at Nandi Hills result in long waits for cars to reach the hilltop.

On Sunday morning, hundreds of cars were seen in a long line on the road approaching the hill. According to the decision of the district administration, only 300 to 350 cars are allowed to park on the hilltop. The police allow the vehicles depending on the available space.

On weekends, the popular tourist spot receives hundreds of visitors and families usually rely on cars to reach the place. Tourists are annoyed by the long waiting times. “On Sunday I reached the foot of the hill around 5:30 am. The police informed us that the parking lots were already full. Cars are parked along the road for hours. We couldn’t get in until 7.30am. Authorities said they had already informed people that only 300 cars are allowed at a time, but that the majority of visitors are not aware of this,” said one visitor.

However, a police official said: “In the past, people used to park vehicles haphazardly on the hill. But now vehicles are only allowed to park in the designated places. For two-wheelers there is no problem, but for cars space is limited. We allow vehicles depending on the availability of space, until then car owners will have to wait in line.”
