Mercedes-Benz India aims to maintain its crown as the largest luxury carmaker with the hope of its best-ever year in India in 2022. After growing more than 40 percent last year, in which the German carmaker became the largest luxury car brand for the seventh time in a row Mercedes-Benz is aiming higher in 2022. Martin Schwenk, MD and CEO at Mercedes-Benz India, expressed confidence during the unveiling of the new C-Class sedan on Wednesday.

“We are seeing a clear shift from Indian consumers to the more expensive luxury car products. The super luxury car market in the country is maturing. Over the years, the average luxury car buyer has been reduced to 35 years. About 48 percent of the C-Class buyers are new buyers, while 52 percent are existing Mercedes Benz customers,” Schwenk said at the event.

Mercedes sold more than 4,000 units in the first three months of the year, which is already more than 25 percent higher than in the first quarter of the previous year. “We currently have an order bank of more than 5,000 car bookings. The waiting time varies from 2 months to a year,” Schwenk said.

Mercedes plans to launch as many as 10 models in India this year, including cars from the AMG, Maybach and EQ range. Mercedes has already confirmed the debut of its first-ever all-electric luxury sedan EQS in India, which will be manufactured locally from its Chakan plant near Pune. Mercedes will also launch the new C-Class on May 10. Earlier this year, Mercedes launched the AMG A45 S. He is expected to launch the AMG GT Black Series at the end of this year.
