Officials: 15-year-old American girl carrying migrants in trunk-driven car that crashed at West El Paso intersection

UPDATE: Texas Department of Public Safety officials say a 15-year-old girl, a U.S. citizen, was driving the car that crashed into N Mesa and Osborne Drive Thursday afternoon.

According to officials, several undocumented non-citizens were in the trunk of the car at the time of the crash. An exact number was not given.

According to DPS, it all started around 10am at Post Oak and Montoya when a DPS Trooper tried to stop a car for expired registration.

Officials say that when the car slowed down, three people in the car drove into a nearby neighborhood. Police have arrested the male driver. Officials say after the trooper returned to his police unit, the suspect’s car was gone.

Officials later reported that another DPS Trooper had found the same car at a gas station near Doniphan and Mesa. After attempting to execute a traffic stop, the vehicle drove off and eventually collided with two other vehicles at N Mesa and Osborne.

The passengers were handed over to the border police.

UPDATE: Several people were injured. The firefighters cleared the area around 12:30 p.m. Three cars were involved. Nine people were injured, one seriously. There were no injuries among the police.

EL PASO, Texas – Four lanes of traffic are blocked in the upper valley after a multi-vehicle accident. The Texas Department of Public Safety is investigating.

Initial reports say the incident happened around 10:45 a.m. Thursday at N. Mesa and Osborne.

The severity of the injuries is unknown, according to the Texas Department of Transportation website.
