Sergio Perez was pleased with the recovery he made in qualifying for today’s French Grand Prix, while neither red bulls start on p0le they will start second and third.

During qualifying at Paul Ricard on a hot and humid Saturday, Ferrari worked well together to ensure Charles Leclerc took pole. only a tenth and a bit adrift from his teammate.

It was good news for the Mexican veteran, during the three practice sessions prior to qualifying he was a second or more slower than Verstappen the entire time.

So after qualifying, Perez was understandably happy with third place: “It was a good recovery, I struggled a lot. I think it was my worst weekend but we managed to recover well for qualifying.

“The goal is to try to recover and beat those red cars. They looked strong. Our goal is to beat both red cars.”

As for the latest effort, Perez said: “It’s really good to get a decent lap in Q3 after a difficult start to the weekend and I’m happy to be back in the race. We made some adjustments to the setup and managed to get into the rhythm of understanding the tires, which worked well.

“Hopefully it will allow us to fight hard in the race where I think patience, a strong start and good tire strategy in the heat will be the key to a good result. It is also very important that we work together to get the best result for the team.”

Perez is third in the 2022 F1 championship with 151 points, 57 behind leader Verstappen at mid-season; Red Bull leads Ferrari in the constructors’ table 359 points to 303.
