When most people think of Porsche, the first thing that comes to mind is the iconic 911 sports car. Normally you don’t go straight to off-road adventures and camping. However, with the monumental success of the company’s SUVs, the Cayenne and the Macan, Porsche is turning to the outdoors. It now offers a Porsche rooftop tent ‘experience’. Interestingly enough, you don’t even need to own a Porsche to experience camping on top of it.
The Porsche roof tent experience turns a Taycan into a camping paradise
Porsche recently released a press release in which the company had a handful of influencers try out the rooftop tent for a test run. However, these influencers are not the only ones who have the option of sleeping on top of Porsche’s vehicles. Everyone can!
While it appears to be only available in Germany at the moment, Porsche is offering what they call a “roof tent experience” where you can drive a Porsche and then sleep on it. That’s a little too simple, but you get the idea.
The adventure is set in the iconic Black Forest of Germany. It’s actually a lot more involved than just sleeping on top of a Porsche. The adventure includes a ziplining experience, morning walks and even offers e-bike adventures or stand-up paddleboarding. Of course, you will also experience a spirited ride through the windy roads of the German Black Forest.
Plus, an alternate venue for the Porsche rooftop tent experience takes you to wine country, where you’ll go on a guided ride through the German Wine Route. In addition, this package includes wine tasting and a wine walk with picnic.
Both packages include the use of a Porsche Taycan Turbo S Cross Turismo and the roof tent. In addition, there are three lunches, two dinners, outdoor equipment, pillows, blankets, etc. available.
Each package costs $2,490.00 per person, or approximately $2,600 USD. That works out to just over $5,000 for a two-person adventure. While that’s a bit on the steep side, it’s definitely a lot cheaper than buying the $187,000 Taycan.
Bring the tent experience to the US!
Porsche does offer similar travel experiences here in the US. However, none of them offers the unique possibility to camp on one of the cars with a roof tent. To be honest, that’s a bit disappointing. Seems like a good time to me!
Not to mention, the Porsche experiences here in the States are a lot more expensive. The company offers a handful of different experiences, including the Pacific Northwest, Route 66, a Colorado experience, and the Northeast. However, all of these packages cost $11,400 per person if you’re a couple or $13,400 per person if you’re going alone. In that case, Porsche will match you with another single-person experience buyer.
Overall, this is a pretty great concept. If you have any travel plans to Europe soon, you should definitely consider adding the Porsche rooftop tent experience to your list. How many of your friends will be able to say they slept on a Porsche?
