Is the Subaru WRX 2022 a good value for performance car buyers? The performance sedan holds its value better than any other sports car, according to a new report from red book†
RedBook has researched thousands of new pricing and valuation models to find the best of the best. They’ve identified the best new car forecasts to keep most of their value after three years and 28,000 miles of ownership. The 2022 Subaru WRX is back in the top ten vehicles for 2022.

red book predict resale for the Subaru WRX 2022 is 73 to 77 percent after three years. RedBook says the next-generation WRX offers “decent bang for the buck, evolving design towards a classic WRX look and featuring a powerful boxer engine.”
They say it has some shortcomings. RedBook says the WRX doesn’t feel new enough, and “The WRX hybrid has been tamed for the latest model.”
What does the top 10 pick mean for buyers of performance cars?
Value retention can make the biggest difference when trading in your sports car after 3-5 years. You get more for your trade-in than other models in the same category. If you plan to keep your new car for 3-5 years, depreciation (loss in value) is your primary expense during ownership. The choice shows buyers which vehicle best retains its value. The WRX won’t lose you a lot of money like many new sports cars.
Ross Booth, chief executive of RedBook, says that while the next-generation model didn’t get a lot of horsepower, “the reputation and substance of the new WRX will be enough to keep buyers interested for years to come. a sports sedan, the WRX it is.”
More WRX Value Awards
A recent report from JD Power also says the 2022 WRX wins the sports car segment in its final 2022 ALG Residual Value Awards. The performance sedan is again a top choice in its segment.
What is the price of the Subaru WRX 2022?
The 2022 WRX 6-speed manual trim level starts at $30,600. The WRX with Subaru Performance Transmission (SPT) is $32,450, the WRX Premium six-speed manual is $33,100, the WRX Premium SPT is $35,150, the WRX Limited six-speed manual is $37,490, the WRX Limited SPT is $39,740 and the WRX GT costs $43,390. Prices include destination and delivery charges ($995).
In the recent RedBook residual value awards, the Subaru WRX 2022 is a top ten choice among sports cars. The WRX is expected to have the highest percentage of the manufacturer’s suggested retail price after three years.
