If you want fast Ford, you have a few options. First, you could buy a Shelby, Roush, or Saleen-enhanced Ford, such as the Mustang Shelby GT350. Then you could build one yourself. Finally, you could buy a car from Ford’s own Special Vehicles Team (SVT); here are some of the best SVT models ever, such as the SVT Raptor and SVT Cobra R.
- Mustang Terminator
- Ford F-150 SVT Lightning
- Mustang Cobra R
- Ford F-150 SVT Raptor
- Ford GT
Is the Mustang SVT Cobra Terminator one of the best SVT models of all time?
The short-lived 2003 and 2004 Cobra Terminator is a mustang hard to ignore. Aside from its aggressive stance, ominous cobra badges and shrill, manic supercharger whine, the Terminator asserted the Mustang’s dominance in the early 2000s. The Terminator’s 390 horsepower is thanks to a 4.6 liter DOHC V8 with an Eaton M112 supercharger and forged bars from Manley. If the Terminator’s horsepower or aesthetics aren’t enough to make you sway, the drag strip potential should grab your attention.
How much power does an SVT Lighting have?
Like it or not, the Ford F-150 SVT Lighting is a wild project and a cool muscle truck. The Lightning produced 360 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque from its 5.4 liter supercharged V8. Better yet, MotorTrend says power figures jumped to 380 horsepower in 2001. The result was a low-slung truck with a step and as much character as considerable power.
How much does a Mustang Cobra R cost?
The 2000 Ford Mustang Cobra R was a limited-release, track-ready Mustang on the SN95 platform. Classic.com reports that Ford has produced only 300 of these, which explains its recent sales of over $100,000. In addition, Ford only offered it in red, without comfort such as air conditioning or a radio. Still, it produced 385 horsepower and ran on Bilstein suspension components, Brembo brakes and a handy limited-slip rear differential.
How much does a Ford SVT Raptor cost?
The Baja-inspired Ford Raptor became instantly popular and it’s not hard to see why. However, only the later first generation Raptors had a 411 hp naturally aspirated 6.2L V8. Also, Kelley Blue Book (KBB) says the 2014 Raptor has a typical retail price of $46,332. Of course you need to save some money for the pumps.
Is the Ford GT a V8?
The breathtakingly beautiful Ford GT has a 500 hp supercharged 5.4L V8 engine. The V8 is an all-aluminium affair with a six-speed manual transmission and a 6,500 rpm red line. It was an emotional nod to the legendary GT40 race car of the 1960s, and no matter what yardstick you perceive, it’s alive. It is truly one of the best SVT models ever.

What happened to SVT?
In 2017, after more than 25 years in business, Ford merged the Special Vehicle Team into today’s Ford Performance division. However, Ford chose to take that step after giving us some of the most amazing SVT Cobra Mustangs, trucks and performance cars the brand has ever made. Better yet, the team created vehicles that span the entire range, creating a healthy used car market. If you’re tempted, find your fast Ford while you still can!
