Stolen cars found in Hannibal, 5 youths arrested

HANNIBAL, Mo. (WGEM) – Five youths have been arrested after an investigation by the Hannibal police into several car thefts in recent days.

Hannibal Police said officers received a tip on Monday that a stolen vehicle belonging to Hannibal had been left at the Meadows Camp Ground in Ralls County.

Police said a witness saw the suspects take off in a blue Chevrolet Traverse.

A Marion County sheriff’s deputy later spotted the Blue Traverse near Broadway and Main Streets, where the sheriff’s deputy stopped the vehicle and officers arrested five minors who were inside.

When searching the vehicle, officers found a gun and keys from other vehicles previously reported as stolen.

Police said they were able to locate all vehicles stolen during this investigation.

“The level of cooperation in this case has been great. Both the Marion and Ralls County Sheriff’s Departments, Missouri State Highway Patrol and NECOMM contributed to these arrests,” Hannibal Police Chief Jacob Nacke said. “Information was quickly disseminated and surrounding authorities actively searched for the suspicious vehicle, which was subsequently located by a Marion County deputy. I cannot thank our partners enough for the help they provide on a daily basis.”

The Hannibal Police Department stated that the best way to prevent your vehicle from being stolen is to lock it and remove the keys.
