Tesla Model 3 and Model Y are the best-selling cars in Switzerland through the first six months of 2022

Continuing a trend from 2021 where the Tesla Model 3 was the best-selling car in Switzerland all year, the Model 3 tops the list again through the first six months of 2022. However, its lead isn’t comfortable, as it is. has been closely followed by the Model Y.

According to data from Swiss cars, the Model 3 sold 2,201 between January and the end of June. Less than 200 units behind is the Model Y, which has 2,029 sales over the same period.

The Texas-based automaker’s electric sedan and electric SUV are the only two EVs to finish in the top 15. The next closest competitor is the Skoda Octavia (1,985), Audi Q3 (1,889) and the BMW X3 (1,720).

While the Model 3 and the Model Y top the rankings, the path to get to that point was a bit of a roller coaster ride, but only because the cars have to be shipped from Giga Shanghai.

In January, the Model 3 and Model Y had only 8 and 9 registrations, placing them well behind the pack in 222nd and 216th place in the sales rankings.

It was a very different story in March after a new shipment of cars arrived from China. The two EVs have risen to 3rd and 4th in the rankings for the year so far.

April and May again saw dismal numbers with just 8 sales for the Model 3 and 2 for the Model Y, until a new batch of cars arrived in June, catapulting them to the top of the rankings. (through Look

With Giga Berlin now producing cars and Giga Shanghai up and running again, the numbers should be even better in the second half of the year.

Switzerland isn’t the only country where Tesla is at or near the top of their sales rankings for all types of passenger cars, including those with internal combustion engines (ICE). The Model Y was the second best-selling car in the UK in June and the most popular car in Norway last month.
