buying a new car is not a cheap option, but if you’re looking for new wheels it’s worth knowing which will give you the best MPG to save money in the long run.
Now, new research has identified the most fuel-efficient new cars for sale in the UK, as well as the most fuel-efficient models of any major car brand.
PHEV cars offer astounding official fuel economy figures thanks to the way they are lab tested. Real drivers rarely hit the official numbers, even with regular battery charging, but the numbers give an indication of how different models compare.
The electric-only range of PHEVs has also improved in recent years, with the C300e able to travel up to 100 kilometers on a full battery and the Volvo up to 52 kilometers on the battery alone.
Which car? editor Steve Huntingford said: “Given the rising cost of living, things like fuel economy are an increasingly important consideration for car buyers.
“The good news is that modern PHEVs in particular are incredibly efficient if you mainly do short trips and plug them in regularly.”
