Owning your own car gives you a sense of independence, but getting all the maintenance needed for that car can be overwhelming. From oil changes to tire rotations to fluid flushes, there’s a lot that goes into maintaining your vehicle.
Fortunately, there are apps that can help you manage everything. You may get service reminders from your local auto service center or sometimes have a sticker in your windshield with a recommended date for your next oil change. But with an app on your smartphone that you carry with you every day, you stay informed of all the important information you need.
So it’s time to check out the six best car maintenance apps and tips.
The AUTOsist app helps you manage your car with a user-friendly interface. When you open the app, you’ll see all the cars you’ve entered in your virtual garage. The free version of the app only allows you to add one vehicle.
If you want to add up to five vehicles, you have to pay a one-time fee of $19.99 for the Pro version; if you want to add more, you’ll need the Gold plan, which costs $49.99 per year.
With each vehicle, you can add the type, equipment, mileage, license plate number, VIN number and a nickname for the vehicle for easy organization. You can also take a picture of your vehicles so that you can quickly identify them.
Selecting a vehicle on the home screen gives you access to maintenance data, fuel data, trip logs, personal notes, reminders and more. Adding a new service, such as an oil change, takes about five minutes or less, depending on how granular you are. You can add photos, mileage, which store has been used, and notes to each service entry.
2. Fuel or a car
The Fuelly app and the aCar app are the exact same app, just on two different operating systems. If you have an Android phone, download aCar and if you use an iPhone, use Fuelly.
The home screen is colorful and brings a little life to something as mundane as servicing your car. Similar to AUTOsist, Fuelly allows you to track fuel, service and journey data, write detailed notes and set reminders for yourself.
You can also keep track of all vehicle-related expenses, accidents, replacement vehicle parts and even the sale of your car. If there are services that you know will be repeated, such as oil and tire changes, you can add them to your Services section. Then, when you need to enter an oil change service record, you can quickly select Oil Change from your menu.

3. CARFAX Car Care
CARFAX is a popular service when it comes to buying a new car, so most people are probably familiar with it. What you may not know is that there is a CARFAX Car Care app that allows you to keep track of all the maintenance on your car without lifting a finger.
Well, you have to enter your car’s VIN number to find your car, but after that you’re worth gold! Because of the natural way that CARFAX works, it retrieves all of your car’s service information and displays it for you. From there, it will recommend when to get your next oil or tire change, when your registration needs to be renewed, and more.
There is also a handy section of the app that helps you estimate the cost of certain repairs. This can help immensely if you are unsure of what things cost so that you don’t get scammed by an unreliable service center.
If you are buying a used car, the CARFAX Car Care app is especially useful as it retrieves records based on its VIN number. So even if you don’t have physical records of the work done on a vehicle, you can probably see a virtual record through CARFAX’s system.
4. Just automatic
Simply Auto is another great app to keep your car up to date with all services. Maintaining your car is usually a stressful task, but Simply Auto makes it, well, simple!
First you need to enter your vehicle and then you can start keeping track of everything related to that vehicle. There is a plus sign on the home screen that makes it easy to add new records. From the home screen, you can enter new refuels, services, expenses, trips or mileage.
To get an overview of all services and costs related to your vehicle, you can switch from the Dashboard tab to the Statistics and Charts tab. There you can see total stats, average fuel stats, trip stats and more.
Through the Simply Auto app, you can also use a feature called Auto Trip Logging. If you enable it, it will automatically detect vehicle movements and enter your rides for you. You can take 15 trips for free or upgrade to the Platinum plan for $9.99 per year or a one-time fee of $29.99.
When you open Drivvo, you immediately see an overview of all previous maintenance data of your vehicle. This is an incredibly useful way to keep track of when you last traded in your car for an oil change or how long ago your tires were replaced.
By tapping the plus sign at the bottom of the screen, you can enter data about income, service, expenses, fuel, routes traveled and reminders for the future. When entering a new service record, there is a long list of service types already preloaded in the app, making the process even easier.
The Reports tab provides an overview of the collected information and graphs that represent your data. There are general reports and reports specific to fueling, expenses, income and services.
6. myEZ Car Care
The myEZ Car Care app has a simple interface that may look outdated, but it functions well and makes it easy to keep up with your car’s maintenance needs. Certain features of the app are locked behind VIP subscription starting at $9.99 per year. But most of the features are free to use!
Every time you bring your car in for an oil change, fluid flush, new brake pads or anything else, you can enter it as a new record. You can also set reminders for yourself to get push notifications on your phone every time you need to return your car.
If you then enter information when you fill up your car at the gas station, the app can automatically calculate your gas mileage for you. Keeping track of your car’s gas mileage is one of the best ways to make sure you don’t waste money on gas. And if you’re looking for more ways to save money, there are apps to help you be frugal and save money on the cost of your car.
