Whether it’s a genre of film, television, or writing, science fiction allows us to peek into the future and conceptualize what it might look like. In some cases these are sneak peeks become reality a few years later. Science fiction also offers us technology and ideas that we may never have imagined, especially in the field of buildings, weapons and cars. Cars in particular get a lot of super cool upgrades that would make driving a lot more enjoyable and hi-tech. Let’s take a look at some of the most incredible cars in science fiction that set the screen on fire.

DeLorean – Back to the Future

Back to the Future may have been the first science fiction movie to feature truly iconic Sci-Fi technology, such as the hoverboard Marty McFly uses to zoom around his hometown. But aside from mainstream technology, the DeLorean featured in the movies is one of the truly iconic vehicles of the genre. Not only does it look great, it’s also the time machine used by the mad professor and his child prodigy. Back to the Future quickly became one of the highest-grossing science fiction movie franchises at the time, thanks in part to the great technology and incredible DeLorean time machine featured in the movies.

It’s nearly impossible to even begin to describe the technology required to build the cars on this list. One part that will most likely be needed is a catalytic converter. A catalytic converter is the part of the engine designed to reduce the emissions coming from the exhaust. Almost all road vehicles have catalytic converters and the cars with the most expensive converters are the Ferrari F430 and the Ford f250. There is no doubt that these futuristic cars are also a converter that is on the expensive side

Spinners – Blade Runner

With its distinct cyberpunk aesthetic, Blade Runner is one of the most recognizable science fiction films ever made. This aesthetic is carried through in the technology that is everywhere, including the unique and advanced spinners who are driven through the streets in both Blade Runner movies. These cars are nothing like what we see on the roads every day, but anyone who’s seen the movies wishes they had one of their own. With advanced armor, a Batmobile-esque body, and incredible top speeds, Blade Runner’s Spinners are arguably some of the coolest cars in science fiction.

Ford Crown Vic – Men in Black

Now an item much more like the cars we drive and see on the roads every day, the Ford sedan featured in the Men in Black series. Like the protagonists’ suits, the Ford Crown Vic is black and has a classic and stylish element. However, this vintage Ford is not like the normal model as it is equipped with some of the coolest sci-fi technology to come out of film and television. While you may be able to buy the car, the technology inside Men in Black is still not an option… At least not yet.
