The best type of car to get your child to sleep - and exactly how long it should take

NEW research has revealed which type of car is best for getting your child to sleep – and exactly how long it should take.

In a survey of 2,000 British parents with babies and young children, 56 per cent of those with an electric vehicle said their child found it as easy or easier to fall asleep compared to petrol or diesel models.

According to Citroën’s latest survey, only 11.9 percent said an electric vehicle made it harder for their kids to get to sleep.

Meanwhile, 15.8 percent were uncertain anyway.

Nearly half (44 percent) of all parents surveyed said they took their child on a short car ride especially to help them fall asleep.

The study also showed how effective using a car can be in helping children take a nap. The data shows that it takes a child an average of 16½ minutes to fall asleep in a car, with 96 percent of parents saying their child usually falls asleep. within 30 minutes or less.

The main factors that parents considered to be most beneficial for helping babies and young children fall asleep during a car journey were the gentle movements of the vehicle on the road (46 percent), a comfortable temperature in the car (41 percent) and a comfortable car seat (40 percent).

More than a third of parents (34 percent) said they think a smooth ride is the most important factor in helping their child fall asleep.

Eurig Druce, Managing Director of Citroën UK, said: “For new parents, getting their baby to sleep is often a challenge.

“A short drive with a child is a proven method for many parents, and our research shows that it can help younger children fall asleep faster than at home.

“The smooth and quiet ride of electric vehicles creates an even calmer environment for both children and parents.

“Citroën is committed to offering an electrified variant of every vehicle in the range by 2025.

“So everyone can rest assured that our models will continue to provide a calm and relaxing experience for the whole family for many years to come.”
