In his diverse portfolio, Lexus effectively combines exceptional craftsmanship and extravagant styling. It serves as the premium subsidiary of well-known Japanese automaker Toyota, but with significantly more personality and desirability.

Lexus built its reputation on big luxury cars like the smart LS sedan, but grew thanks to successful SUVs like the original Lexus RX. Lexus has also made an outstanding supercar during its spectacular production years, the Lexus LFA.

The Lexus LFA is the company’s first supercar, but it’s not a half-hearted attempt. It’s a beautifully constructed machine with all of Toyota’s engineering power behind it. The $375,000 LFA was limited to 500 units, and another 50 received the $68,700 Nürburgring performance package, transforming the already remarkable base model into a track-focused racer.


The style isn’t for everyone, but the build quality is excellent, as you would expect from a car with a high price tag. The performance of even the base model will leave you breathless. The LFA could be an asset if you want something more exclusive than a Ferrari 458 Italia or a Lamborghini Aventador.

The 2011 Lexus LFA has a top speed of 202 MPH

In the supercar class, it’s relatively lightweight, and its punchy 9,000-rpm V-10 engine is almost in its own realm. With 552 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque, the power is impressive, considering it’s Lexus’ first supercar.


The LFA can reach 100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 320 km/h, making it comparable to cars costing less than a third of its price.

Lexus uses carbon fiber, leather, Alcantara, and metal surfaces inside the LFA. It also has two bucket seats and Lexus’ Remote Touch controller interface. The LFA also uses custom materials and colors in its interior design.

A digital thin-film transistor (TFT) speedometer with color-changing background, size-changing numbers and side-appearing submenus serves as the instrument display.

The LFA contains three modes; normal, automatic and sport. The TFT display shows small numbers in automatic mode. In normal mode, it is displayed in larger and bolder numbers. Inverted colors, displaced red line and stark numbers in sport mode. The sport mode also has a programmed color change of the red line.

In addition, to create a 3D illusion, the tachometer display includes an electronically moving metal ring with a layer of acrylic plastic. The LFA also has new driver and passenger seat belt airbag designs that resemble the S-Class ESF safety concept car

The steering wheel includes a right-hand start button and alloy paddle shifters. The driver must first put the key next to the steering wheel before pressing the start button. Dual channels connecting the firewall and intake manifold transmit two octaves of engine noise into the cabin, the sound tuned like an Ovation guitar.

The interior acoustics system is built with a 12-speaker Mark Levinson sound system and small, lightweight components. Tumi luggage is tailor-made for the LFA interior, with a two-piece set made from carbon fiber-like materials and imprinted with the VIN. A smaller ‘concourse’ case for trackdays and short trips, and a larger ‘coastal’ case for longer trips.

The 2011 Lexus LFA has an impressive aerodynamic exterior that cuts through the air with ease

The exterior of the car is a visual expression of its powerful performance. The uniform lines of the LFA flow from the roof to the sill in a continuous convex to concave line, dictated by the front mid-engine layout, long wheelbase and small overhangs, clever aerodynamics and sleek, low-slung cab.

Carbon fiber reinforced plastic gave the LFA’s designers significantly more creative freedom than metal, allowing them to build shapes, curves and edges that would have been impossible with metal.

For example, if traditional metal had been used for the bodywork, the sharp trailing edges at the rear of the LFA that ensure airflow is neatly separated from the body for superior aerodynamics would have been unimaginable. The various air intakes and aerodynamic features provide a practical and aesthetic purpose.

The LFA has modern lighting systems, including high-intensity bi-Xenon penetrating headlamps with wiper-coupled jet cleaners and a trio of high-visibility LED brake lights. The door mirrors direct cool air over the vehicle’s shoulders to the rear air intakes, while also providing excellent visibility.

The top of the door hides the letterbox style door handles to avoid disrupting the clean lines of the LFA’s flanks. The LFA also has a double-blade, single-swipe wiper with a consistently wide wiping surface.

You’ll find a stunning exhaust bulkhead with a trio of stacked exhaust ports on the rear of the LFA. The LFA finishes the stainless steel baffle in a heat resistant black coating to contrast with the polished exhaust edges. It also has a small space between the exhaust pipe and the bulkhead to give it a more professional look.
