the 2016 Lexus The NX is a compact luxury crossover with a striking design and turbo engine.

In a competitive market such as the luxury compact SUV segment, it is difficult for a car to stand out if it offers basic functions. Vehicles in this segment offer excellent luggage space and an elegant yet comfortable interior. That’s exactly what the 2016 Lexus NX offers, and you can get it at an affordable price.

The exterior design of the car has received rather polarizing reviews. While some critics have called it bad, as consumer reports show, some other owners have admired the design and say the car’s aggressive style sets it apart from the rest.

But whether you like the exterior design or not, the NX’s interior is something completely different. The dashboard looks sporty and there is plenty of luxury material available. The only downside is that the compact exterior makes the loading volume quite small, but otherwise the NX is comfortable and has a lot of space.

The 2016 Lexus NX offers more admirable features in addition to its premium interior. Let’s see what makes this vehicle such a good luxury SUV.

The 2016 Lexus NX is a fun car to drive

Under the hood, a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine produces 235 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. There is also a six-speed automatic that works well with the machine.

The front wheel is available in all trim levels, but four-wheel drive is optional. According to My Car Specs, the car can go from 0 to 60 mph in 7.6 seconds. This is actually an average performance in this segment, as the engine is not that strong.

The 2016 Lexus NX comes in two models: the Lexus NX 200t, a five-passenger compact luxury crossover SUV that comes in a single package, and an NX 300h hybrid version.

The NX 200t focuses on driving pleasure. It’s a solid ride with responsive steering. The car can be steered over curves and bumps with ease. The vehicle has a special bond with the driver that some SUVs, including the previous Lexus iterations, don’t have. An optional F Sport package offers more with its sporty-tuned suspension.

The package also comes with an Active Sound Control feature that artificially pumps engine noise into the cabin. Paddle shifters and a tuner-style boost that is a little unnecessary but enjoyable are also included. Lexus made the artificial sound enhancement because of the silence in the cabin. The car is so quiet that the driver cannot hear the engine.

In general, the vehicle’s performance is good. If you compare it to some of its rivals, such as the 2016 Audi Q5 and the 2016 BMW X3, you’ll see that the NX does quite well. It is very smooth and respectably powerful. The only problem is the quietness of the cabin; some drivers won’t notice if the engine has a problem.

The 2016 Lexus NX may have a controversial exterior design, but the interior is decent

The NX has a cool and modern interior. This particular cabin is unique in that most cars in this segment do not offer the same atmosphere. Lexus designers weren’t messing around. They made the materials surrounding the interior look and feel rich. Soft leather lines around the seats, dashboard and padded center console keep passengers from hitting the center console.

Lexus ensured that the high-mounted climate control system was visible and easily accessible to the driver. Other secondary controls and the infotainment system are easy to use and understand. The car comes with a Display Audio system that uses a button-and-display system similar to Mercedes’ COMAND system.

Most NX models come with the latest Lexus Remote Touch interface. The interface has several menus and icons that are selected by a console-mounted touchpad (similar to a laptop). The only downside to the infotainment system is that it doesn’t come with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, so owners who would like more technical features in their car may find this disappointing.

Despite the modest dimensions of the car, the rear seats offer plenty of space. Like most compact cars, the NX’s cargo space is tight. However, the NX offers a total of 54.6 cubic feet when you put the rear seats down. But with the seats up, the cargo space shrinks to 17.7 cubic feet.

The 2016 Lexus NX has one of the highest safety ratings in its segment

All NX models have a good range of safety ratings. The IIHS awarded the car the Top Safety Pick+ title after achieving a “Good” rating in all occupant protection categories. The NHTSA has given the NX an overall rating of five stars. That includes four stars for frontal impacts and five for side impacts.

In addition to passing the safety test, the NX comes with excellent safety equipment. These safety features include eight airbags, Lane Departure Warning and automatic high beams. There is an optional front collision warning system which is very effective. The system detects impending collisions and warns the driver with a light and buzzer if a collision is imminent. In fact, the collision system stops the car if the driver does not react.
