This is why the Nissan Titan is best avoided

Nissan is a company with a bit of a middle-of-the-road reputation. The automaker has had some hits, but has also had quite a few misses in the car market. One of those misses may well be the Nissan Titan. The Nissan Titan came on the market for the 2004 model year and is still around. However, there are reports that Nissan will discontinue the truck in the coming years.

Overall, the Nissan Titan is not a complete failure. There are fans of the truck, but the Titan has never been a big seller in the car market. Worse, buyers have reported several mechanical issues with different model years. While every vehicle has issues, the Titan has always had them at a greater volume. Not only does the Titan have many reported problems, but it’s not at the level of powerhouses like Ford and Chevrolet. The truth is that the truck section of the auto industry is tough. The top sellers come from the same companies, so it makes sense that a manufacturer like Nissan would struggle.

According to some, the 2022 Nissan Titan is an improvement. While not many people think it’s a great truck, people consider it more reliable than previous models. However, some critical issues with the 2022 Nissan Titan still make it a truck best avoided.

Limited Engine Options on the 2022 Nissan Titan

One of the great things about most vehicles is that there are multiple engine options. However, that is not the case with the Nissan Titan. The car manufacturer offers only one engine for the truck. That said, it’s an impressive engine. According to Nissan, it’s a 5.6-liter direct-injection V8 engine. The truck has a maximum horsepower of 400 horsepower and a torque of 413 lb-ft. The 2022 Nissan Titan is a four-wheel drive vehicle with a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Besides the limited engine options, the towing capacity is another disadvantage of the Nissan Titan. Towing is a primary reason people buy trucks, but the Titan fails in this category. The 2022 Nissan Titan has a maximum towing capacity of between 9,040 lbs and 9,320 lbs. In comparison, the Ram 1500 can tow up to 12,750 lbs. That’s a pretty big difference, and the Nissan Titan is one of the worst trucks on the market in terms of towing capacity.

The interior of the Nissan Titan is boring

Today, trucks have quite sophisticated interiors. Gone are the days when trucks were just for agricultural work. So, it saddens us to say that the 2022 Nissan Titan has a dull interior. Sure, it’s decent, but it’s not as modern as buyers get with the F-150 or any of Ram’s options. In terms of technology, the truck comes with an 8-inch touchscreen display and a 7-inch advanced drive-assist display. The system uses NissanConnect and is compatible with Android Auto and integrates with Apple CarPlay. While the technology in the Nissan Titan is a bit limited, it comes with some of the most critical safety features.

While much of the Nissan Titan’s interior is drab, buyers can customize it in several ways. While these changes won’t work miracles, they can add some personality to the Nissan Titan. In general, however, the interior of the truck is one of the main reasons to avoid it. The 2022 Nissan Titan simply doesn’t measure up to the competition in this category, or any category for that matter.

Common Nissan Titan Issues Over the Years

Based on the number of complaints, the first model Nissan Titan is the worst. However, it has been one of the worst trucks on the market throughout its run. Some of these problems were quite significant. According to co-pilot search, transmission problems were rife during the Titan’s run. Buyers experienced that the truck vibrated when shifting and had difficulty shifting. Worse, some people reported that the truck stopped abruptly while driving, which is never a good thing. Fuel pump failure has also been a major problem over the years. One of the concerns with fuel pump failure is that it can damage other components such as the catalytic converter. Faulty navigation systems were a problem on previous generations of the Nissan Titan. However, this is less important as most people have smartphones.

Nissan has eliminated most of these issues for the 2022 Titan. It has a higher than average reliability score, but we would still avoid this pickup as there are much better options available in the truck market. Plus, the 2022 Nissan Titan starts at over $40,000, a hefty price tag for a vehicle with so many drawbacks. Hopefully one day we will get a better truck option from Nissan, because the Titan has never been great.
