But doggy “no-nos” for the pooch playlist include Led Zeppelin’s “Black Dog,” AC/DC’s “Back In Black,” and “Paranoid,” by Black Sabbath.
Other songs that are in the top 10 calming songs include Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side Of The Moon”, UB40’s “One In Ten” and Kate Bush’s “Hounds Of Love”.
It comes after a survey of 2,000 dog owners found that two-thirds (67 percent) notice their dog becomes stressed in the car.
But three-quarters still plan to take their dog on a staycation this year, with 72 percent traveling by car.
Sam Sutton, who has worked with the hotel booking platform justhoot to make the playlistsaid: “A recent study from the University of Glasgow suggests that music can indeed influence the behavior of dogs.
“Dogs were exposed to different sounds and styles to assess physiological and behavioral changes.
“The interesting thing they witnessed was that dogs showed positive behavioral changes when exposed to certain types of music.
“Reggae and soft rock seem to have been the favorite dog melodies.
“Perhaps the combination of pristine studio production and pleasing sound aesthetic contributes to what makes the dog’s favorite playlist.
“Reggae is often associated with sunshine and chilling out, so maybe this kind of soothing emotional response is shared with our canine companions.”
The survey also found that 68 percent of dog owners are aware that certain types of music upset their dogs, but more than a quarter (28 percent) had no idea it might upset them.
Sam Sutton also listed the 10 songs to avoid playing with dogs, including AC/DC’s “Back In Black”, Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” and Motörhead’s “Ace Of Spades”.
He added: “Since a dog’s hearing range is greater than a human’s, you may want to avoid music with whistles as it could arouse their natural sense of response and curiosity.”
Adrian Murdock, of Justhooit, said: “It’s heartening to see that 81 percent of dog owners would change their listening habits in the car to ensure their furry friends don’t go crazy on the highways when they’re stuck in traffic.”
But the survey, conducted through OnePoll, found that more than a third (36 percent) of dog owners were unable to recognize the signs of stress and anxiety while their dog was traveling.
And one in four (26 percent) didn’t know that stress and anxiety could cause harmful illness to their dogs, by lowering their immune systems.
Blue Cross behaviorist Becky Skyrme explained her top tips for introducing dogs to car rides.
She said: “Being familiar with car travel from the earliest possible age will really teach them that car travel is a normal, everyday occurrence.
“For slightly older dogs, or those who are concerned about traveling, there are many other things you can do.
“Some dogs experience motion sickness, and this can be greatly helped by talking to your vet.
“Otherwise, it’s all about helping your dog feel safe, secure and comfortable in the part of the car he’ll be traveling in.
“To start, start with a stationary car. Use their favorite things to reward them for getting in and out, then build up the time they spend in the car.
“Then move on to taking short trips that end in something really positive, like a favorite game, a fun walk, or receiving a tasty treat.
“This will help your dog build a positive association between car trips and their favorite things. If the problem persists, always seek help from your veterinarian or a qualified behaviorist.”
