Tata Motor continues to lead the electric four-wheeler segment with more than 70 percent market share thanks to Nexon EV and Tigor EV.
Tata Motor re-established itself as a leader in the electric four-wheeler passenger car segment in India in June. The automaker sold more than 650 electric vehicles last month, with the Nexon EV firmly in the top spot for EV buyers in India. With the Nexon EV, Nexon EV Max and the subcompact sedan Tigor EV, Tata Motor currently holds more than 70 percent of the market share in the electric four-wheeler segment. The Nexon EV and Tigor EV are among the top four electric cars sold in India in June. The carmaker is miles ahead of MG Motor, which is in second place with a market share of about 27 percent.
Here’s a rundown of the top four electric cars sold in India in June:
Tata Nexon EV
Tata Motors’ dominance in the electric four-wheeler segment is attributed to the success of its Nexon EV. Tata Motors sold 650 Tata Nexon EVs last month, more than 33 percent of what the automaker sold in the same month last year. Tata Motors matched the highs of January this year when the Nexon EV had its best month in terms of sales with an equal number of units sold.
Tata Motors recently introduced a more powerful version of the electric SUV called the Nexon EV Max. It is equipped with a larger battery pack and offers more range on a single charge.
MG ZS EV
MG Motor’s only electric car in the Indian market currently ranks second in the list of the best electric cars sold in the country. The new-generation ZS EV, which was recently launched in India, found 250 homes last month. The automaker has posted a 145 percent increase in sales of its EVs. By June last year, MG had only sold 102 units of the electric SUV.
The 2022 MG ZS EV was launched at a starting price of 21.99 lakh (ex showroom). It is larger and has a longer wheelbase compared to Tata Nexon EV. It gets its power from an IP69-rated 50.3 kWh battery pack that offers a range of 461 km on a single charge. The electric SUV delivers 176 hp and accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 8.5 seconds.
Tata Tigor EV
Tata Tigor’s electric avatar hasn’t been as successful as the EV version of the Nexon SUV. Tata Motors was only able to sell 8 units of the electric subcompact sedan in June, up from 13 units in the same month last year.
Hyundai Kona Electric
Hyundai Motor’s only electric offering, the Kona SUV, is fourth on its list of the best electric cars sold in India last month. The Korean carmaker, which will also introduce its second electric car in India later this year, sold just seven units of the Kona electric SUV in June. The sales figure is comparable to what Hyundai could sell in June 2021.
