Top 5 best-selling cars in India in August 2022

The auto industry is gradually returning to its former glory with a string of new car launches and positive consumer sentiment. In addition, the festivities will further boost car sales in the country. Looking back at car sales in August, four of the five cars in the top five are Maruti Suzuki.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno

Maruti Suzuki’s premium hatchback, the Baleno, took the top spot in August. The Baleno registered 18,418 units sold in August 2022, compared to 15,646 units in the same period last year, posting a growth of 18 percent. In February, the company introduced the Baleno facelift in the country with a new range of cosmetic and feature updates.

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R

Right for three quarters

The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R has missed the top spot by just 20 units, despite a strong 91 percent growth. The company sold 18,398 units of the Wagon R last month, compared to 9,628 units in August 2021. The CNG version of this hatchback in particular is a popular choice among car buyers in the country.

Maruti Suzuki Brezza

Three quarters left front

The Maruti Suzuki Brezza secured third place with 15,193 units sold in August 2022, compared to 12,906 units sold in the same period last year, reporting a growth of 18 percent. In June, the Indian automaker introduced the new Brezza to the country with a new range of cosmetic and feature upgrades, which has sparked the interest of potential buyers.

Tata Nexon

Three quarters left front

The Nexon compact SUV is the only non-Maruti Suzuki model on this list. The Tata Nexon is in fourth place with sales of 15,085 units in August 2022, compared to 10,006 units in the same period in 2021. The Nexon registered strong sales growth of 51 percent. Interestingly enough, the Nexon missed third rank by only 108 units! Tata Motors offers the ICE version of the Nexon compact SUV in two special edition versions, while the electric version is available in two battery packs.

Maruti Suzuki Alto

Right for three quarters

The Maruti Suzuki Alto was in the top five in August 2022 with sales of 14,388 units, compared to 13,236 units in the same period last year. Alto’s sales grew nine percent with the recent launch of the Alto K10. The new model is based on the Heartect platform and comes with a modern list of features.
