Top 5 cars in India with ADAS: MG Astor, Hyundai Tucson, Mahindra XUV700 and more

ADAS, once a premium safety technology, is now trickling down to mass-market cars

ADAS or Advanced Driver Assistance System is a radar-based technology that gives a car a certain level of autonomous power. You have cameras and sensors that work and scan the area near your vehicle, which then send that information to the car system. Based on the input, the system performs a range of functions ranging from accident prevention to driving assistance.

This is a premium feature previously only seen on high-end cars, especially Volvos. With the growing technology and the need for safer roads, ADAS is finding its way into mass market cars. There are six levels of ADAS, but most cars around the world have just reached level 2 of the technology. The ones we have in India are all ADAS level 2 equipped. Here is a detailed explanation of ADAS and what challenges it poses in India.

So, here is the top five most affordable cars in India that get ADAS safety technology:

For reference, even the ZS EV gets certain ADAS features, but not the entire suite. It gets reversing aid, blind spot detection system, reversing warning and lane change aid. These features don’t require any level of autonomous intervention, which technically doesn’t qualify for the ADAS you get in the five cars on this list.

The XUV700’s list includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Keep Assist, Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, High Beam Assist and Traffic Sign Recognition. At the moment we only have five cars on this list. With Hyundai plans for more ADAS cars, Kia will follow suit. Since the Astor is getting the safety feature, even the Hector will be able to get it soon. By the end of 2023, we will see many additions to this list, from different manufacturers.
