Top 5 Cars Sold in India in H1 of 2022

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R

Maruti Suzuki Wagon R emerged as the best-selling model in the country. The company sold 1,13,407 units of the Wagon R in the first half of 2022, compared to 94,839 units in the same period last year. Sales of the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R are up 20 percent in the past six months. Rising fuel prices have boosted sales of this hatchback, which is known for its CNG option.

Maruti Suzuki Swift

Right for three quarters

Despite an 11 percent drop, the Swift hatchback has become the second best-selling model in the country. Maruti Suzuki Swift registered cumulative sales of 91,177 units in the past six months, compared to 1,02,206 units in the first half of 2021.

Maruti Suzuki Dzire

Here’s another Maruti Suzuki model on this list. Dzire’s compact sedan has become the third best-selling model in the country with 85,929 units sold in the first half of this year, compared to 70,991 units sold in the first half of 2021, registering a 21 percent growth. In March, the company introduced the Dzire CNG in two variants: VXi and ZXi. The CNG option has boosted sales of this compact sedan in the country.

Tata Nexon

Front left three quarters

Nexon’s compact SUV is the only non-Maruti Suzuki model on this list. The Tata Nexon ranks fourth with cumulative sales of 82,770 units in the first half of this year, compared to 46,247 units in the same period in 2021. The Nexon has posted an impressive 79 percent sales growth. The ICE version of the Nexon compact SUV is available in two special editions, while the electric version is available in two battery packs.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno

Right for three quarters

Maruti Suzuki’s premium hatchback, the Baleno, has reached the top five despite a 20 percent drop. The Baleno registered 74,892 units sold in the first half of 2022, compared to 93,823 units sold in the first half of 2021. The company introduced the Baleno facelift in February with a new range of cosmetic and feature updates.
