Top Gear 2022: Release Date
The next series of Top gear starts on Sunday 5 June at 8pm on BBC One. Episodes will also be available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
What will the boys do in the new season?
Heading to the sunny state of Florida, the trio are on a mission to win some races for a change, but the competitions they competed in were a little unusual to say the least.
We spoke to Chris and Freddie to find out how they were doing, and to get a taste of what else is coming up in the very first episode…
Familiar with motorhomes (recreational vehicles) from his time starring Peter Kay Max and Paddy’s Road to NowhereMcGuinness bought an 80s Holiday Rambler Alumalite for his companions to travel in.
“There’s something about the way an old RV fits into American culture, which translates into: Top gearHarris says. ‘The iconography of that vehicle is very much Breaking Bad† And when they exceed a certain age, they are associated only with bad activities. So seeing our campervan suggests we’re running away from the police! But it was a joyful vehicle to be in.”
At the Palm Beach Raceway, Harris, McGuinness and Flintoff attempted an event with its roots in illegal Fast and furiousstyle street racing.
“Donk racing is one of the most dangerous forms of drag racing ever devised,” explains Harris. “It’s a renegade, lawless street racing activity that is now allowed on a racetrack. They use a certain era of car, like the Chevy Nova from the 1970s, and you have to have a certain size wheel and tire. These things are absolute monsters, with up to 1500 horsepower, and we’ve all struggled with it. And the people who drive them are very scary!”
After crossing the Everglades in their trusty RV, the trio dipped their toes into the rather soggy world of Swamp Buggy racing.
“Racing Swamp Buggy is one of those curious things they do in Florida,” Flintoff says. “There are all different kinds of big wheeled vehicles, driving through a swamp. I don’t know if they said it to excite me, but they claimed it had an alligator in it, so when my car broke down I was a bit worried. My career in the swamp race consisted of riding about 50 meters and then I was just in a swamp and got wet.” Donk Racing on Top Gear.
At an oval racetrack with ramps called the Freedom Factory, the boys were introduced to an uncontrolled form of racing in old police cars.
“There’s a guy down there called Cleetus, who’s a YouTube star, and hosts these events who race a load of old Lincoln Town cars, which are old police cars,” Harris says. “The race is over 30 laps – hence the Dirty 30. It’s a great size, although I had a little mechanical problem with my own body, which you’ll see on the schedule. You’d think I’m a bunch of limeys like us, you have to watch out for the American drivers, but actually it was the English in the race that were the biggest problem.”
Is there a trailer for Top Gear?
