NEW YORK – A woman is lucky to be alive after surveillance video shows an aerial platform crashing and landing directly on top of her vehicle.

The woman was driving down a street in the Bronx when the boom of the aerial platform came down. Surveillance video obtained by WABC shows the moment the arm fell, causing the top of the car to flatten.
Another video from another angle, shared on Twitter by WCBS reporter Alice Gainershows debris falling with the boom arm and landing so hard it seems to bounce.
The Ministry of Buildings said: WCBS that the preliminary investigation found that the MEWP was lifting reinforcement when the arm collapsed and fell. The truck was involved in work on a nearby 11-storey residential building.
The woman in the car, identified only as a 22-year-old, escaped the ordeal with only a hand injury, likely due to broken glass. WABC reported.
“It sounded like the World Trade Center,” Ticey Williams, who witnessed the accident, said. WABC. “I was standing there, and all of a sudden I looked up, and I saw the beam pop, and it came down, it was like a movie. I was like, ‘this can’t happen.’ So when I heard the bang of the wall it hit, and then the car, bam! I just knew someone was dead. But thank goodness the lady was fine. We ripped open the door and got her out.”
The boom also knocked over a street lamp and left debris on the road, WCBS reported.
Twenty-nine workers from a nearby construction site were evacuated while the Department of Buildings evaluated the area for safety, WNBC reported.
